Fun fact: The New River Gorge National Park is home to one of the world’s oldest rivers – the New River. The ancient river actually begins in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and flows in a south-to-north course (differing from the west-to-east flow of most other major rivers). The New River Gorge Bridge is the fifth-longest single-span arch bridge in the world and the third-highest vehicular bridge in the United States.
